Modern Coimbatore - Kongu Nadu (or region) is famous for wholegrain preparations. Thair Godhumai, made of Godhumai Ravai (Daliya), is a delicacy that I had at a formal get together.
Oil - 3 tsp
Ghee - 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 tsp
Urad Dal - 1/4 tsp
Channa Dal - 1/2 tsp
Curry Leaves - 1 sprig, chopped
Small Onion (Shallots) - 9 - 10
Green Chillies - 2, slit
Milk - 3/4 cup
Water - 2 cups
Curds - 1/2 cup
Wash and soak Wheat Rava.
Peel and cut small onions into 2.
Heat oil and ghee in a pressure cooker.
Add mustard, urad and channa dal. After it splutters, add curry leaves, green chillies and ginger.
Add onions and saute for 2 minutes. Add water and milk and bring to boil. Add soaked wheat rava and salt. Mix well. Once it starts simmering, close cooker and pressure cook for 2 whistles and then lower flame and continue cooking for 15 minutes.
Allow pressure to subside and then open cooker. Cool.
Add curds and mix well. Check taste and garnish with coriander leaves.
You may also garnish with fried raisins and cashew nuts.
