Vazhakkai (Raw Banana) Cutlet

Nothing to beat the comfort of Tea (Tea time) or Soup (Lunch/Dinner) with some spicy bites during the rainy season. Deep fried delights that abound in our cuisine like Bajji, Gol Bhaje, Kola Urundai, etc, are just perfect for this weather with a cup of tea - sweet and savory treats hot from the Kadai. :-)
Potatoes generally form the base of quick bites. I learnt that Raw Banana (vegetable) can be substituted and have tried a fusion version of Cutlet and Kola. Perfect Treat.

Vazhakkai (Raw Banana) - 2
Onion - 1, small
Green Chilli - 2
Ginger - 1/2"
Bread Slices - 2
Maida - 1 Tbsp
Cashew nuts - 2 Tbsp
Lemon Juice - 1 tsp
Cumin Powder - 1/4 tsp
Corriander Leaves - 3 Tbsp, finely chopped
Salt to taste

Wash and cut the two ends of the Vazhakkai. Steam cook until soft. Peel ans mash the Banana.
Chop the onions very finely. Grate or grind the chilli and ginger.
Crush the cashew nuts coarsely. Blend the bread slices in a mixer to get fine crumbs.
Mix all the ingredients together until well blended. Check taste and adjust accordingly.
Divide into small balls. Flatten out slightly.
Deep fry in hot oil until golden. Drain well on absorbent paper and serve hot with a Spicy Tomato sauce.

Add cooked and lightly mashed Green Peas into the mixture.
You can also dip the cutlets in maida batter and roll in breadcrumbs and then deep fry them. In this case avoid adding maida along with the vegetable.

Spicy Tomato Sauce:
Mix a few drops of Chilli Sauce or Tobasco Sauce with Tomato Sauce.

Great recipe Akka! Made it just now and everyone loved it. An addition of chopped curry leaves might have added some extra flavor.
