Urad Dal Poori - Khatta Meeta Aloo

Dal Poori - I have been searching for that recipe lingering in my memory from my childhood days. Each recipe that I have tried I have enjoyed. But it is still not that one from "La Pattiserrie" that was in Pondicherry. I came across this recipe and was excited. I had it bookomarked. Now, when the ingredient was for Magic Mingle was Urad Dal I had no excuse to delay further.
This aloo recipe was novel and simple. So tonight for dinner we had Bedvi and Khatta Meeta Aloo.

Urad Dal Poori - Bedvi Poori

Ingredients:
Urad Dal - 1/4 cup
Green Chilli - 1, large
Ginger - 1/2" piece
Whole Wheat Flour - 1 cups
Maida - 1/4 cup
Rava - 1/4 cup
Fennel - 2 tsp, powdered coarsely
Chilli Powder - 3/4 tsp
Coriander Powder - 3/4 tsp
Lemon Juice - 1/2 tsp
Garam Masala Powder - 1/2 tsp
Salt - 1/2 tsp
Oil - 1 Tbsp
Water - 1/4 cup (use as needed)
Oil for deep frying
Instructions:
Wash and soak urad dal in water for about 5 hours.
Drain well and wash once again. Grind to a smooth paste with green chilies and ginger and enough water (approx 1/4 cup).
Take wheat flour, maida, rava, 2 tbsp oil and the spices in a bowl. Mix well.
Add the ground dal and mix to a medium stiff dough.
Cover and rest for 15 minutes.
Make small balls (I got about 10 pooris from this quantity) from the dough and roll to make medium thick pooris.
Heat oil in a pan and deep fry on medium flame, till golden. Drain well.
Serve with Dahi Aloo or Khatta Meeeta Aloo.
